MYP American Literature Honors is intended to prepare students for the challenging demands of the IB Diploma Programme, AP, or any university English program. Students will explore the writings of American authors by an intense study of various genres of literature. The class will analyze the writers’ choices, and will learn to appreciate and offer insight into the intended effect of literary features. Students will examine thematic connections between works of literature, and will develop their communication skills via persuasive, analytical, and creative writing, as well as by oral commentary and creative presentations. Students are expected to perform a high level of critical thinking, and nightly homework is a must in order for me to adequately prepare honors students for the rigor and demands of AP and DP. Students are required to complete the Personal Project as part of 10th grade Honors English. This course is required for graduation.
